I originally had hoped to play some golf today on Sunday, but the weather was supposed to be cold and so I had thought about changing it to Thursday. But we weren't sure how Meilin would be doing on thursday and also I didn't want to leave Jodie with both kids in the hotel room for 4-5 hours by herself. Since the weather was so good and the golf course was on the way back to Kunming from the Stone Forest we asked if the driver could drop me off and I'd find a way back to the hotel. Our guide, Jerry did not like the idea and tried to talk me out of it a few times, but I was very persistent and he finally called the golf course and they said that yes I could come play and that I could hire a car to take me back to the hotel which was actually cheaper than hiring our driver to take me there and back on thursday.
So I went and played golf at Spring City Resort. They have two courses there, I chose the Lake Course which sits right above the lake and is rated the number 1 course in all of China and Asia. It was beautiful! I was able to play by myself and I had my own cart and caddie, a young girl who spoke no english. She was very nice, but we had a very quiet game as we could not communicate much except for yardages and she would say thing such as "nice shot" and "good put". I had a great game, I was driving the ball well and putting well especially for being on a new course and different grass. The grass is so soft and wet and it was easy to take a large divot. It was fun having a caddie to clean your clubs and ball, hand you the club you needed and treat you like royalty. I took a ton of pictures of the course but it was so hard to not enjoy the beauty of the course. There are some very nice houses being built around the course, and if I ever came to live in China this would be the place I'd live.
After I was done with golf I had a driver take me home in his Buick. Here, Buicks are the preferred hot luxury car, it was very nice and I think the guy was practicing for NASCAR or to be an Indy car racer. We sped by everyone going home and he was always honking at everyone to get out of his way. Golf is my highlight of China so far, getting Meilin will top it, but I really enjoyed playing golf. Maybe if Meilin is doing well, I'll have to go play again on Thursday!
